Think of this as if you were a native Spanish speaking person walking into a French speaking building and everyone speaks French except you because you only speak Spanish. My friend was confused most of the time, which is why he asked for an interpreter. Had he got one, he would be able to understand as the interpreter would obviously interpret everything in American Sign Language so he can understand the situation better. It was an unfortunate situation for him but we both are hoping he's not in a worse spot than what he was before walking into the building.
The police department, the court system and the city of Findlay really need to look up the Americans with Disabilities Act law because under the law, we have the rights to reasonable accommodations such as having a qualified interpreter for situations like this. It's really hard to get reasonable accommodations in Findlay as Findlay really makes deaf lives very difficult to adapt.
I had to take my friend over because he can't drive under suspension and we both are deaf. My friend repeatedly asked for a qualified interpreter and he wasn't granted one as they kept saying no, they won't provide one. They insisted on using paper and pen and my friend doesn't really write well so they were taking advantage of his inability to write and they oppressed his rights to a qualified interpreter.
Your better off going there in person, trying to obtain information over the phone is a waste of time.
The new answering system is good for making a quick payment. If you want a human being; it rapidly becomes a joke.
